Robin Hood’s Wild Forest Review
Robin Hood and his Band of Merry Men have always been the subject of great fascination, which is why they’ve so often appeared in books, movies, TV shows and more recently, casino slots. And by the way, this isn’t the first (nor is likely to be the last) Robin Hood-themed slot we’ve seen. You can see why Robin, Marian and his pals make for great slots. They’re colourful characters we all know and a trip back to Medieval Times brings with it both a sense of history and danger to proceedings, a nice little cocktail to look forward to.
Slots Basic Information
Software: Red Tiger Gaming
Release: 14.05.2020
RTP: 95.68%
Volatility: Medium
Wild Symbol: Yes
Scatter Symbol: Yes
Away from its central subject matter, this is a medium volatility slot, something which is becoming rarer these days. So, you may secure some really big wins, but maybe not enormous ones. And on the flipside, normal base wins are pretty frequent to keep boosting that bank and you’re as unlikely to go too long without a win as Robin is to go without hunting something hearty and delicious for dinner. There are three bonus features to speak of and in another nod to originality and a desire to be different, a free spins round isn’t one of them.
Rules
The game boast five reels and there are always 10 active paylines. Some slots have paylines into the thousands, if they use the Megaways function, but it’s worth remembering that the number of paylines isn’t a reflection of how much or how often you can win. A better reflection of how generous a game is can be found in its RTP (in this case 95.68%) while the maximum win here is 300x. As we said, you’ll find bigger payouts at other slots but then again, you have to question: how often are you really going to hit a Jackpot at another slot? Yeah, not every day.
That maximum payout of 300x your bet comes if you secure five Golden Lions Mask. But you can also get that same payout should you go on a big run of consecutive wins in one of the three bonus features. Which we’ll come to in due course. The game doesn’t have a regular Wild that substitutes for other symbols in the base game like you’d find in most other games, but there are certainly Wilds to look forward to!
Minimum bet is 0.10 GBP/Euros and maximum bet is 10 GBP/Euros.
Tips and strategy
First tip: play it in free mode so you get your head around what sort of payouts you can expect on a regular basis, how often you might activate one of those bonus features and whether this is the right game for you in terms of its dynamics, theme and playability. Best find that out without using your own cash!
Second tip: the bonus features don’t activate that often so if you secure two in a row in a short space of time, now might be the chance to take the money and run! You wouldn’t find Robin hanging around for the Sheriff of Nottingham to get the better of him, would you?
Bonus Rounds
No free spins but three randomly activated features. Let’s see how they work.
Maid Marion Wild
It wouldn’t be a proper Robin Hood game without his love interest making an appearance, would it? And her appearance is good news for you as well as Robin. It means that she’ll make extra Marian Wilds appear on screen and that’s very likely to help you secure a decent payout.
Robin Wilds
This is essentially a respin similar to what you’d get in say Starburst. But it’s actually significantly better. Not only do the Wilds lock in place for the respin but one of the symbols becomes a special symbol and also locks in place for it. Any more of the special symbol or another Wild and you get another respin. And so on.
Little John
Little John, who in the books was anything but Little, appears to remove low-value symbols. That paves the way for high value symbols to take over and secure some very decent wins.
Design
The symbols look sharp, clean and colourful, our favourite of which is the big frothy mug of beer. The area surrounding the reels is also well-designed and when the bonus features do come around, the animations to go with them and subsequent celebratory sequences are pretty cool and easy on the eye. You’ll find games with more complex designs but this one is more than good enough.
Final Thoughts
Strange as this may sound, a slot that isn’t all about the free spins round is actually quite a refreshing breath of fresh air. And yes, you may have to be a little patient when it comes to those three bonus features, but they do appear often enough for you not to lose hope and it’s certainly worth your while when they do.
This is a good, fun medium volatility game that will appeal to just about any slots player.
