Loosely based on the classic 1978 video game Space Invaders, the most popular video game ever made, it combines some of the features of that retro game with cutting-edge slot game mechanics. The result is a game that’s highly complicated, will take you a fair while to get your head around and is at times, overly busy. But the variety of the spice of the life and this one is nothing if not different to the norm.

Rules

Just like on any slot, you can adjust your stake per spin, play in Autoplay mode (here they’re called Turbo Spins) so that you don’t have to manually press the button ahead of every spin and you can put ‘stops’ in place so that if a certain event happens, the Turbo Spins will come to an end. An example of that would be to stop if you won, or lost, a certain amount of a particular spin.

The first area where this slot is different to the norm is that the reels don’t spin until the symbols settle, which is what normally happens. Nor are you looking to get three or more symbols in a row. Rather, ahead of each spin, aliens in different colours populate some of the spaces on the grid.

You can see exactly how much each alien is worth because it tells you! But protecting the aliens are blue asteroids. With each spin 1, 2 or 3 spaceships will be lined up on the reels prepared to shoot.  What you want to happen is for the spaceships to have a clear shot at the aliens, so you get paid out for each alien they take out.

But sometimes there will be asteroids preventing you from getting a clean shot and on other occasions you just won’t have a spaceship ready to fire at all. If shots are fired that cause asteroids to explode, they’ll either lead to green or red crystals accumulating on the right and left of the reels, which in turn lead to new symbols appearing on the reels.

Tips and Strategy

If you want one tip ahead of playing this game, it’s this: you don’t need to understand every last detail of it in order to enjoy it! As we’ve said already and will say again: this is an unusually complex slot where each spin causes the reels to change and there’s always a load of stuff going on.

So, if you don’t know exactly how or why you just won big, then don’t worry. Just enjoy the game for what it is rather than busting a gut trying to decipher how everything works!   However, if you are the sort of person who enjoys knowing what happens inside a car or a smartphone to make it work, just go to the game’s instructions and it will all be there, spelt out for you.

Bonus Rounds

Just the one bonus feature to speak of but given how much else is going on in and around the reels, that’s more than enough!

Free Games

Occasionally an alien scout ship appears above Reel 6. The name of the game is simple: shoot it down! If you manage, you’ll get 10 free games, which are played on a different set of reels.

Before you get under way in terms of playing them, a random multiplier of between 2x and 10x will be awarded to you and will be in place during your free games. At this stage, other random feature symbols also appear on the reels, one of which can get you another free game. Once you’ve got this far, your objective is to get even further. Your mission is to complete this level and then as many more as you can, up to a maximum of six. The further you go, the higher the multipliers in play: the biggest of all is 25,000 times your bet but as you can imagine, you won’t see it that often.

Design

This game has more the design of something you’d find on an X-Box than on an online casino. But you’d probably worked that out by now, anyway. On the one hand it’s retro and a nod to the aforementioned Space Invaders, on the other hand it’s got some nice modern graphics and sound effects to add a little bit of drama to proceedings.

In any case, it’s pretty easy on the eye.

Final Thoughts

If you like to play 5 or 10 spins on dozens of different games every day and are expecting to have each one sussed, this is unlikely to be the game for you.

You’ll need at least 15 to 20 minutes just to get your head around the fact this operates in a totally different way to just about every slot you’ve ever tried out. And then another 5 or 10 minutes to really understand what you want to see happening on the reels in order to give you the biggest payouts.

Alternatively, don’t worry about any of that, just press that Turbo Spins button, sit back and watch the destruction on the screen unfold!
