Head over to Mexico (it is also celebrated elsewhere, by the way) and a few days on the calendar are enjoyed as much as the Day of the Dead. It’s on November 1 and 2. Which strictly speaking suggests it should be Days of the Dead (plural), but anyway…

Rules

The first thing you need to know is that the game has 15 active paylines. That means that across the 5×3 reels, there are 15 different lines where wins can be secured. The first thing you need to actually do is to decide on your stake per spin. Choose a stake, the game will automatically multiply it by 15 (because of the number of paylines) and that’s how much you’re wagering per spin. As is the case with most slots, you’ll need at least three symbols on one of the paylines to secure a payout. But three can easily become four, or four can become five, with the help of the Wild.

Somewhat appropriately for a game that revolves around the dead, the Wild is a skull.

Tips and strategy

Remember that the more you play for, the more you’ll bank when you secure a win of any description. But it works both ways. If you’re playing for high stakes and go on a lean run, your bank will disappear quicker. That’s just the nature of the beast.

There’s nothing wrong with raising your stake if you get a gut feel that you may be about to stumble on a decent base game win or that you may be about to activate one of the two bonus features. But maybe it’s best not to always play for high stakes. And if winning a Mega Jackpot isn’t quite enough for you and you want to make sure you win a Mega Progressive Jackpot when it’s at its peak, keep an eye on that Jackpot figure.

The Mega Progressive Jackpot is funded by players all around the world automatically contributing 0.025% of all stakes per spin going towards it, until it’s eventually won. The absolute minimum you’ll win if you nail it is 400 GBP/Euros. But it will generally be much, much more than that.

Bonus Rounds

Two to speak of. They’re somewhat similar in nature once you get to them and they’re also activated in similar ways. In keeping with the theme of the game, their names are all about ‘the other side’.

Let’s see how they work.

Gates to Beyond Feature

The Gates to Beyond Feature symbols don’t appear that often and part of the reason for that is that they only appear on Reels 1 and 5. But when they do appear, the game really comes to life. No pun intended. You’ll activate the Gates to Beyond Feature, where you’ll have seven free spins. But that’s only half the story.

On Reels 1 and 5, you’ll have a Sticky Banner Wild occupying the whole reel. If you land some high-paying symbols in a line, the Sticky Banner Wild will improve the win and the game will be ‘dead and buried’ as a result of the big win.

Not quite. But you know what we mean.

Risen Again Feature

Similar to the scenario above, the Risen Again Feature is activated by getting a Risen Again Feature symbol on, you guessed it…Reels 1 and 5. This time round it’s a Sticky Wild on Reels 1 and 5 for the duration of the free spins and it’s five of them.

Progressive Mega Jackpot

We’ve told you it’s funded and the minimum amount you’re playing for. So, the only thing left to tell you is how to win it. It’s by getting Jackpot symbols filling a winning pay line. Now you know.

Design

You’ll see slots with more complex designs and funkier graphics out there if you trawl through a load of different games. But here you’ll also see some really cool symbols that are a nod to the Day of the Dead and capture what it’s all about, including the skull and the slightly too made-up lady with the raven hair.

Final Thoughts

For the slots player who doesn’t like their games too complicated but enjoys enough variety that they always feel something’s happening, this could be the one for you. There’s some cool stuff going on, the symbols are fun, the theme is surprisingly entertaining and the two bonus features can lead to some profitable wins.

Then of course there’s that old carrot being dangled in the form of the Mega Progressive Jackpot. As we always say, someone has to win it!
