At first glance, Lucky 9 is pure 80s with slightly clunky-looking symbols, most of which, in homage to the old school fruit machines, are fruits.
Bottom of the fruit barrel is the plum (the lowest value symbol) followed by cherries, watermelon, apple, lemon and finally, the strawberry. There’s also a Wild symbol that substitutes for any other symbol and a Scatter (we’ll come to it in a minute) in this 6-reel, 3-row slot with 20 paylines, paying left to right.
So far, so normal. But this is where Wazdan start to show that they’re not stuck in the 80s after all. For starters, you can choose the volatility level you want to have in place. Low for lots of small but frequent wins, medium for somewhere in between and high for far less frequent, but far more valuable ones.
There are four different numbers at the top of the reels -1, 3, 6 and 9 – and they’re actually Multipliers that can become active at any moment and will then be applied to any subsequent wins, until another of the Multipliers appears on the reels again, to change the value of the Multiplier once more.
Unsurprisingly, there’s a free spins round and in classic fashion, it’s triggered by getting 3, 4, 5 or 6 Scatter symbols on the reels. If you’re lucky enough to have the 9x Multiplier in play when the free spins are triggered, that’s what all your free spins wins will be multiplied by, though you can also get that Multiplier during the free spins. You can also retrigger more free spins by getting more Scatters during the bonus round.
All in all, it’s a sort of ‘old meets new’ and more to the point, it’s a slot that has plenty of unique features, so well worth a go.
